Case study

How Anthea and John saved for their first home with APS Savings
Saving for a house deposit can take years of hard work but it isn’t impossible if you have the right plan in place. Jonathan and Anthea decided they were ready to knuckle down and save for their first home.

They struggled to find a bank that would offer them an interest rate more than 1% p.a. until a relative recommended APS benefits.

With their $26K investment, Jonathan and Anthea calculated their yearly interest earnings with a major bank to be $70 compared to $500 with an APS Savings account. It was a pretty easy decision from there!

FAQs

What are the fees associated with APS Savings accounts?
There are no fees associated with APS Savings accounts. As a not-for-profit cooperative, our priority is helping you to maximise your savings without having to worry about the fees!
Will my investment be secure?

Having commenced business in 1905 and being a nonprofit owned by 30,000 members and clients, we are a very conservative organisation. We use our depositors funds to fund residential property loans secured by first mortgage with a maximum loan to valuation ratio of 80 per cent. We do not fund property developments or commercial or retail property loans.

What are the minimum and maximum deposit amounts?
For APS Savings accounts, you can deposit anywhere between $10 and $10M. We cater for all types of investors.
What are the identification requirements?
If you are already an APS member, we do not require any identification requirements. However, if a partner or spouse, who is not a member and is a joint holder, they will need to be identified. For this process, we will need a valid driver’s licence or a birth certificate together with a recent utility account. These documents do not need to be certified.
What happens when my term investment reaches maturity?
Approximately two weeks before the Investment falls due, we will notify you of the upcoming maturity and inform you of the current terms and rates with the option to reinvest. If you choose to reinvest after 12 months, you will earn an additional bonus rate of 0.25% p.a. with your funds
then earning an attractive 4.25% p.a. interest rate.
How is interest calculated and paid?
Your Interest is calculated daily. For term investments, interest is paid monthly as directed by the member or it can be added to the principal each month. For our 31 Day Notice of Withdrawal (NOW) accounts, interest is added to the principal at the end of each calendar month, then earning an attractive 4.25% p.a. interest rate.
