I’ve been working in the industry for 28 years and I’ve heard plenty of stories of Accountants who aren’t the right fit for their clients.
A good Accountant does so much more than prepare your tax return. They will provide knowledge around claimable deductions, life plans, financial plans, budgeting measures to maximise savings and investments, as well as improving earning capacity.
If you’re not happy with the support you’re getting at the moment it’s time to step back and have a look at how you can find someone who will help you achieve all of your goals.
Trust is key
You should choose an Accountant who you can trust, who has the necessary experience and who will be there when you need them. They will need to be aware of your intimate financial details so it’s important that you are very comfortable talking to them openly and honestly.
Think about your relationship with your Accountant as similar to your doctor. You need to trust them before you take on their financial advice. If you don’t trust your Accountant, you’re probably not asking the important questions and seeking advice when you need it. If this is the case, it might be time to seek help elsewhere.
Long term focus
You want to be working with an Accountant who is giving you useful tips, helping you grow, and who is focused on making you more money. Having someone who will support you in making smart financial decisions can make a world of difference.
Having an Accountant with a genuine interest in your life is critical to improving your financial position. You want to be comfortable talking to your Accountant about the future and how they can help you achieve your financial goals.
Holistic support
Working with an Accountant who understands your finances from a holistic perspective is key to helping you manage your finances better. You have struck gold if you’re able to find an Accountant who can also point you in the direction of financial planners, advisors and experts who can help you in all aspects of your financial life. Having your finances managed in one place will save you time and stress as you move through different milestones in your life.
