Planning for the unexpected isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to something as emotional as losing a loved one. One of the most thoughtful and practical things you can do for your family is to make sure they’re protected from unnecessary financial stress during a difficult time.

That’s where Funeral Benefits come in.

Whether you’re thinking ahead for yourself or helping a loved one plan, here’s what you need to know about Funeral Benefits, how they work at APS, and why they’re more valuable than you might realise.

Why planning ahead is an act of care

Losing someone is never easy, and in the middle of grief, families are often faced with a long list of decisions. Many of which come with a hefty price tag. From funeral arrangements and transport to burial or cremation fees, the average cost can quickly add up.

Having funeral cover in place gives your family one less thing to worry about. It’s a simple way to remove financial pressure when emotions are already running high, and provide peace of mind that everything’s taken care of.

At APS, we see this as an act of care. It’s a gentle way to plan, so your loved ones feel supported when they need it most.

How it works

Funeral Benefits with APS is not insurance; it’s a member-based benefit, which means:

  • You don’t need to undergo health checks or medicals, just apply for membership online.

  • The amount of Funeral Benefit you receive depends on your age when you join (find your level of cover here.); however, you can also purchase additional cover. You will make a regular membership payment until you turn 70, when your membership is free.

  • You get to enjoy the security of being part of a profit-for-member organisation. This means that your funeral benefit grows alongside you, with organisational profits added to members’ funeral benefits in the form of annual bonuses. Whilst bonuses are not guaranteed to be paid at all, and are at the discretion of the organisation, they have been added to members’ funeral benefits in each of the past 20 years.

  • When you pass away, your nominated beneficiary will receive a quick payout to help cover funeral expenses. Our caring team is here to guide your loved ones through the process and understand the importance of a simple and easy process.

It’s a flexible, supportive option designed to help ease the burden of funeral costs, whatever your circumstances.
